FLY Postponement

Chris RasmussenUncategorized

It’s hard to believe it has come to this, but after recent and honest conversations with the YMCA of the Rockies, based on the current level of COVID-19 rates in their county, along with the projections for this summer, it appears highly unlikely that they’d be able to host us for FLY 2021. Certainly, other considerations have also come into play, but that’s the biggest one. Therefore, after much prayer and discussion, the 2021 FLY Committee has decided that it’s in the best interest of the FLY Convention to postpone until July 2023.

Perhaps you anticipated this. Perhaps you’re surprised by this. Honestly, the FLY Committee is still coming to grips with this. However, as hard as it is, we feel this is the right decision.

With this, here are a few things for you to know that you can communicate to your congregations as you see fit:

  1. For those who already registered, we will be reaching out to you in the coming weeks asking whether you’d like your payment refunded or deferred to 2023.
  2. The exclusive FLY 2021 t-shirt (soon to be an historic artifact) will continue to be available for purchase until April 16. If students or adults would like one, have them check out flyconvention.org.
  3. The FLY Committee is hoping to offer some sort of live-streamed event one evening this summer. This isn’t intended to be a replacement for FLY, but simply as an opportunity for something a little different this year for students. Once plans are put in place, we’ll reach out to you again.
  4. There are a number of things the FLY Committee is needing to work through right now, but rest assured that as the pieces are picked up and plans are put in place for 2023, we’ll communicate this information to you.

If you do have any additional questions, you can reach us at fly@aflc.org

At the end of 2019 the FLY Committee was led to the theme “Restored” for this year’s convention. Of course, with this theme, we believed we had a grand vision in mind. Little did we know that God had a grander vision. We now know that “Restored” was no fluke. It simply wasn’t meant for 2021. And so, knowing that God’s promises are true; knowing that He is making all things new, we look forward to seeing what He will do with this in 2023.

Sincerely,

Gideon Johnson
